I am pleased to announce that we have recently completed the acquisition of the Singapore- based underwater engineering company, Maritime Underwater Maintenance and Services (MUM) Pte Ltd.
MUM is a Singapore-registered diving company, formed in 1997. MUM supplies underwater engineering - inspection, repair and maintenance services; primarily to commercial and naval shipping with the majority of its income coming from the Singapore region. MUM will operate within our existing underwater engineering business UMC International and as part of the Technical Services Group of the Marine Services Division. The two founding directors, Richard Tan and Steve Tan will continue to operate the business on a daily basis.
Richard and Steve commented: “We are both delighted to be joining the V. Group of companies and look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with the management team at UMC. We believe that the establishment of a permanent presence in Singapore is a great move for UMC and will enable MUM to deliver cost-effective services to all UMC clients in Singapore and the surrounding region. In particular we look forward to servicing V.Ships vessels when they call at Singapore.”
Since we acquired UMC in 2006 a key objective has been to expand our global footprint. Jim McGillivray, COO of the Technical Services Group, stressed: “Singapore’s geographical location represents an important maritime hub where UMC’s core business of afloat maintenance and repair services will be maximised. By combining UMC and MUM’s expertise a comprehensive range of support is being established for V.Group and third party customers, not only for routine underwater maintenance such as survey, propeller polishing and hull cleaning but also the more demanding tasks such as the repair and replacement of damaged hull plate, rudders, seals, propellers and transducers.”
